Green

Flowers in Kentucky.

The overwhelming observation as we move north is how green it is.  There are so many shades of green it is amazing.  Occasionally,  there is a flowering tree or bush among the green, but it is GREEN.  The grass is green.  It’s green, green, green.  Maybe because I grew up in Maryland, I deeply appreciate the flora as we move further north.

We have enjoyed the undulating hills also.  Florida is flat, flat, flat.  Moving through Tennessee and into Kentucky we had to go UP and DOWN many hills and we haven’t done this in awhile.

I need to mention that our first stop in Georgia was much hotter than any place we’ve been in Florida since the beginning of the year.  I’m here to tell you that Florida is not always hotter than it’s northern neighbors.  Perhaps it is the influence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Coast, but it is much cooler than some of our neighbors to the north.

We had an very pleasant visit with Regis’s brother and his friend in Chattanooga.  We had a wonderful dinner with great conversation.  The weather was beautiful and Dart was welcome at the restaurant.  Lovely!!

We heard owls almost all night in our campsite in Chattanooga.  Cool!

It’s has been so astonishingly green headed north, that I don’t know what to say.  After we arrived in our campsite in Kentucky, a thunderstorm rolled through.  We heard sirens and were wondering if we were supposed to do something.  Anyway, we survived it and we are enjoying the greenery and all the birds singing.

  1. In the southern US, those sirens in combination with a thunderstorm can mean that a tornado warning has been issued. If it ever happens again, I’d suggest checking the local weather. Then pop the top on your favorite adult beverage and wait for it to go by.

My parents live in northern Alabama. Every so often, my mother will call me and let me hear the sirens because she thinks I miss them. She usually has a mug of coffee mixed with some Rumchata when she does it.

    • Sounds like a great plan. Regis did check the weather and it appeared to be a significant thunder storm issue and by the time we heard the sirens, it was passed our spot. But, we’ll make sure we have a stash of adult beverages for the future!
