Wicked Hot

It was hot when we arrived in St. Charles yesterday. Today, in Jefferson City, “hot” wasn’t nearly a strong enough word. Our thermometer read 102 degrees, and with the humidity the heat index was 113. The moment you stepped outside, it felt like opening an oven door. The saving grace is our new trailer. Our 2016 motorhome never handled extreme temperatures particularly well, but this 2026 Jayco Jay Feather has been a pleasant surprise. Once we’re inside, it’s cool and comfortable. I want to be outside because it is beautiful and we are under trees that provide shade, but it is still too hot. In our hometown of St. Augustine, Florida it was in the 80’s today. I was hoping to escape the heat and get the dogs to a cooler location. Today, I did not achieve that goal. Hopefully, I will as we head further north and west.

Once again, we are camped near a pond with lots of dragonfly activity. If I thought Georgia was too hot to get out of the shade to take pictures, Missouri has somehow managed to outdo Georgia.

As for the dogs, they are behaving well. Today, I bought a bag of Fritos when we gassed up prior to arriving at our campground. By then the dogs had spent nearly 300 miles in the truck. The instant I opened the bag, two collie heads appeared between the seats. Apparently boredom and the sound of a crinkly snack bag are enough to suspend all normal travel etiquette.

This is the first time on this trip that both dogs poked their head into the front

As soon as Clover had the opportunity in our current campsite, she headed to the fire pit to check it out. I’m sure she remembers the cigarette butts in a prior fire pit.
